The Ramblers DZ Round-up
Hi again from the drop zone.
It’s been a mixed bag of weather since the last dz news. Picking up from Queens Birthday Weekend, it was almost a total weather shut down. However we did get 3 loads in Saturday and Riley got 2 x 15 second delays done. Adrian K did Stage 2. About 25 jumpers did 2 jumps each and that was it. Sunday was a total write-off and the party started early, again! Monday was salvaged with a few loads by the dz die-hards! Of course it came good for the rest of the week and, thank goodness until now.
Jean from France keep the dz ticking over after the QBWE. He did all his B-Rels with Belgie all week and then on Friday did stage 10 with a 4 point 4 way from 12,000’ out of the 182 with me and Dave B.
Friday saw the beginnings of the weekenders arrive- Brian and Kylie (photo), Dave B and Dan - and the return of resident AFF instructor Phil from his month of skydiving adventures in the States.
Last weekend was a beauty! Blue skies, not too cold and the winds were ok most of Saturday. Gillian was back (after a short lay-off) for her 50th birthday jump. Zac did a couple of 7,000’ x 15 second delays and nailed it (see Zac’s letter below). Jack E also got a jump in before the stronger winds arrived.
Three first-timers also did Stage 1 AFF, congrats to Scott, Chris and Lee (Bubba’s mate – another convert Bubba!). All three jumped again on Sunday and did Stages 2 & 3. Well done. (Chris continued Monday and Tuesday and completed Stage 7).
Sunday’s weather was beaut and really brought out the crowd. More students arrived; Matt S, Stages 5,6 and 7. Greg C, Stages 2&3, Trevor R, Stages 3&4, Adrian K, Stages 2&3, Tim MacD, Stages 8&9 – congrats Tim! Lee M did a couple of solos. Plenty of A licences soon!
Quote Tim MacDonald: "I completed my AFF yesterday! ... It has been a long held goal and I am stoked to have now finished. Also, I am looking forward to continuing through to my A’s, B’s and beyond!"
There were a few tandems over the weekend. Happy birthday Kayla and congratulations Wade Edwards for you First Live One! Sarge’s mate turned up late Sunday for a tandem and Kimbo scored his first chunder! Yuk! Go Kimbo!
Congrats to Jordan S and Chris S, B Licence.
The licenced (experienced) jumpers also made the most of the weather. There were about 30 jumpers on Saturday (it was also Matt B – Jeebus’s birthday so there was a party Saturday night!) and about 40 on Sunday.
Bubba (photo), Mat C and Josh have formed an Intermediate team with Big Ben. They went hard and did 10 jumps. Suzanne, Andy, Al W were also hard at it Saturday.
Kat and Simmo had a free-fly Bang! and Simmo scored a thick lip! Sunday really did go off compared to other weekends. There was a bunch of jumpers here all having a great time.
We also had a few overseas, interstate and other local dz jumpers visit the dz over the weekend; Chris from Canada, Kaitlyn and August from the US, and also Mac P from the US.
It was also a great day for our instructors with all of us run off our feet and into the air. Mark D, Riss, Ben, Wade, John McM, Phil, Kimbo, and our new packer/videoman Louie did heaps. Even Rodney was clinging on! What a Team. ( Belgie’s in NZ for a short break with Emma).

Last but not least,
congratulations Bubba - 200 jumps and congratulations Ben Fuller (photo) 100th jump and C licence qualified.
See ya!
Macca.

Letter to the Chief Instructor...
Macca,
I wanted to write to let you know what a fantastic time I've been having during the Static Line Skydiving course out at Ramblers Toogoolawah. I'm amazed to think how quickly I've progressed from leaping off the flying fox, to free falling from seven thousand feet, deploying my own parachute, and landing accurately on the target. All the while meeting some great people out at the drop zone!
What I have really liked about the Static Line program, is that once you have left the aircraft, you are all on your own. I found it very satisfying achieving the various goals of the program 'under my own steam' as it were. Plus, it's 1000 dollars cheaper to boot! I think that this more traditional method of teaching is definitely an excellent way to get into the sport of skydiving.
Although I'm only ten or so jumps in, I can say that without a doubt, this the greatest thing I've ever done in my life so far! Nothing beats that intense adrenalin rush of throwing yourself out into the roaring wind, combined with the serenity of the gentle canopy ride back to Earth.
I can't wait to come back for more!
Regards,
Zac Turton
