Ramblers DZ Round-up
DROP ZONE ROUND-UP, NEWSLETTER 7
From Friday 5th August.
Hi Team,
Well the load today, Friday was our first since last Monday but it was good to get back in the air. More tandems for me and yahoo, Wade and Phil were back from the NT Boogie and were put straight to “work”. Kyle was back and we took newcomer Sebastian Pauez from Chile for his first jump at Toogs.

...and get in it!
The weekend was a quiet one although students David Schmuttermaier, Christine Clarke, Daniel Telfer, Cam Faust and Josh Mair all did jumps on Saturday. Bubba, Ben, Mat, Josh and Justin F on camera did 5 team jumps. Peter Davis was back from a long jaunt overseas. Clay Anderson was back from a 6 week break (of thumb that is!). Des Parkes our resident 70 year young jumper bashed out a few and got his A Licence. George Foster, new guy Piot Kukelczynski, Rozie,

P2 Zeno, Justin Khoo and David Bleakley all did jumps.

...and then it was Pub Night!! I’m not too sure what they got up too but it was messy around the fire when they got back!
Monday was a beaut day, a full load of tandems

Tandem family boys, Andreas, Anthony and Mikkel George
and some 182 loads. Nic did his 1st freefall, Adam Martin did Stage 9, Scott Hamilton and Bubba did some fun jumps, Rebecca went on holidays and that was about it ’till Friday’s sausage sizzle, except for Nic who kept bashing away at his static line training program.
And then along came the weekend again. Saturday was a beauty, 12 loads all full, lots of students including one new static line first jumper, Avinder from India,...

...a few tandems and full moon night jumps! We did two night loads with 3 tandems, some rel and some atmo and seven jumpers did their first night jumps, and they all rang the bell.
Sunday was a bit low key but fun. Avinder and Peter Flanagan

Peter Flanagan
kept Belgy busy, Wade did some more fun jumps (he says he’s discovered fun jumps again after the Territory week), Andrew Ellard did his 100th

and about 25 licensed jumpers kept Homer purring along. Last load Sunday was a beauty (it’s been that way now for a while – great last load for the weekend). We - me, Blaino, Holly, Costa and Louis did a little 5-way star, turned it into a V and “tracked” the V into the sunset. Yahoo!
Sunday pub night was mild.
And then it was Monday – Learning Curve Camp! 21 people (and 7 instructors) rocked up ready to go. The fog kept us grounded ‘till 10.30 and then it was on. Avinder did his first freefall...

...a 10 second delay totally unstable. I was half expecting the cypress to go off but...

Avinder back on Terror Firmer!
It’s now Tuesday night and so far the weather has been great and so have the jumps. It’s always the same at LCCs, good vibes, good jumps and everyone there to learn and have fun.
Please check out the photos so far from Darren Harvey (visit the OVERFLOW Photo Gallery webpage). And don't miss the Christmas in July article by Jenny Thornton below...
Gotta go and get this Newsletter on its way so...

see ya,
Macca.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY 2011
Toogoolawah Skydivers Club held a Roving Pairs competition followed up by the ‘Christmas in July’ night on the 30th, fortunately the weather was better than it had been for a few weekends, the day was mild and mostly clear and the evening cold enough to get the most out of the massive bonfire and mulled wine. The Christmas decorations were up, an Aussie gum tree draped in lights stood at the corner of the Turkey Hut, firewood aplenty was stacked by the fireplace and pressies were wrapped ready for the Evil Santa game.
Twenty competitors formed 10 teams of Roving Pairs, each pair drawn stayed as a pair for the 3 rounds, forming a 4way team with a different pair for each jump. The first 2 rounds were on the board for all to dirt dive, some nice randoms, one meeker exit, and one stairstep diamond, it sounded pretty easy but the video footage told a different story – how much fun is head down Andy? There were some spectacular exits, probably good coaching lessons on what not to do, but lots of laughs.
Round 3 was the mystery round, the cameraman handed over the sealed envelope once the wheels left the ground, so high tension and what seemed like a really fast ride to height while trying to figure out who was to do what. Luckily it was a star exit then 3 to do a 360°, the other a 450° to a stardian, then to a Canadian Tee – as good a set as you can dirt dive inside the plane!
Whew! All rounds finished early enough for a 16way sunset load to go up, Matt’s first 16way too (yep, that was a carton, thanks Matt) and we nearly got that third point.
After the jumping was done for the day Maureen and Fiona from the kitchen put on a huge Christmas dinner with puddings and hand made bonbons full of lollies (top job), and jumpers were worn as pants which by the end of the night looked strangely normal (except maybe for those shoulder pads, Suzanne). Macca won the 10 jump draw and donated it back to be drawn as individual tickets, so ten lucky people won a jump ticket each, thanks Macca for your generosity.
The crowd gathered around the video screen for the judging of the competition and to cheer for the most entertaining (Clapometer scoring), it was not always an advantage to score actual points – one team did a most excellent 10 point skydive in the 45 seconds of working time but sadly it did not score well enough on the Clapometer to clinch a place. The eventual winners received $100 in prizemoney, thanks Riss and Kylie for the carton for that, and the wooden spooners collected $60 to drown their sorrows. Thanks to all competitors, organisers, manifest, John the pilot, barrel boy, supporters, you all make jumping the best sport in the world.
And so the 4way fun continues on 20th August when SEQS Club hosts 4Way4Everyone at Toogoolawah, 3 more rounds of precision skydiving, so now you know how good it can be check their website and Facebook page to get registration details.
See ya there………
